The difference between a major chord and a minor chord is just one single note - The 3rd.Ĭompare these 2 chords together: B major (1 - 3 - 5) The major or minor triad that is present within the chords is what results in the blatantly obvious right or wrong sound. More often than not the triad is going to either be major or minor. At the foundation of any chord, there is a triad present. The chords may be 7ths, 9ths, 11ths, whatever. It doesn't matter how complex the chords of a song are. If it's supposed to be a minor chord, but you accidentally play a major chord will sound wrong, but not quite as harsh as the other way around. If you are playing a song, and there is supposed to be a major chord, but you accidentally play a minor chord will sound horribly wrong.
